Common fault
Why is my Sub-Zero refrigerator not cooling?
Short answer
Before anything else, open the freezer.
What is actually going on
A Sub-Zero built-in runs a separate sealed system for each compartment, which is why a rock-hard freezer next to a warm refrigerator is good news: the expensive half has proved itself, and what is left sits on the refrigerator circuit. Its own evaporator fan has quit, its defrost has failed and packed the coil in ice, or its thermistor has drifted and is no longer reporting what the compartment is actually doing. If both compartments are warm and the unit is running constantly, look at the condenser first. In Pacific Beach a coil packed with salt and sand is a common enough cause on its own.
What we check, and in what order
What we check, in order. The freezer first, because that one observation decides everything after it. Then the condenser and its fan through the grille, since a restricted coil in a beach kitchen produces exactly the warm-in-the-afternoon, better-by-morning pattern people describe. Then the refrigerator evaporator: whether the fan is turning, whether the coil is clear or furred with ice, whether the defrost heater has continuity, and whether the thermistor is reporting what the compartment is actually doing.
Ice on the refrigerator evaporator is worth explaining, because it looks like the fault when it is really the result of one. Once defrost stops finishing, the coil grows a jacket of ice that insulates it, and airflow through the compartment falls off week by week. That is why this fault gets described as gradual rather than sudden, and why the display is often still showing a sensible number while the top shelf sits at room temperature.
If that matches what yours is doing, say so when you call — it decides which parts come on the van.

The technician was courteous and explained the wine cooler temperature issue clearly. Fixed quickly. I recommend their services to anyone in Crown Point with Sub-Zero problems." – Mark T., Crown Point
I needed freezer repair late at night, and their 24/7 contact was lifesaving. Quick scheduling and excellent results near Garnet Ave. Highly trustworthy service!" – Jessica R., Pacific Beach
Fridge went warm but the freezer was still solid, which he said was actually good news. Pulled the grille off and the coil was packed with sand and salt. Cleaned it, replaced the fan on the fridge side, and it held overnight. We're a block off the boardwalk so I guess that's normal here.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do you service the drawers, beverage centers and outdoor ice makers as well?
All of them. Tell us what is in the house and we look at every unit on the same visit. A place near Sail Bay or Crown Point often has one full-height built-in plus refrigerator drawers in the island, a beverage center in the bar and a UC-series ice maker outside: the tightest cabinetry, the least airflow, and condensers nobody has ever touched.
What does the diagnostic fee cover, and how is the repair priced?
The diagnostic fee covers the technician's time and travel, and it is waived when you go ahead with the repair. The repair is quoted separately once the fault is known, as one figure covering parts and labor, agreed by you before any component is fitted. Payment comes at the end, after the appliance is run and tested: major credit or debit card, or personal check.
